Well, let’s look at the demographics. Sunnah Muslims are 74% of the populace, Alawates are only one sect of Shi’ism Islam which comprise about 11% of the Syrian populace and the balance are various ethnicities like Druze, Palestinian, Armenian, and Kurds, among others. The French (who previously mandated Syria) put the Alawites, specifically, as a military armed force. The Assad regime is a family business run since 1970, so for Assad to concede to the uprising would mean loss of the mom & pop shop. By the way, were you aware that Assad is a medical doctor? Nice.

I’m afraid they’re laughing at your expense on this occasion Mr. Fish. They’re running the same intensive psy-ops propaganda war against Assad’s Syria that they did on Ghaddafi’s Libya. The Russians are only intervening at the last hour because it has now become so overwhelmingly obvious that NATO and western intelligence have been training, funding and directing the ‘rebel’ (al Qaeda, funnily enough) operations inside Syria in a bloody effort to blame Assad.

You mean Assad has absolutely nothing to do with the mass slaughter and torture of children, followed by men and women? That the Assad regime did not order the army and militia to fire on unarmed protesters? That a majority populace like being governed by an iron-fisted minority? Documentation by human rights organizations have a different story to tell than your assertions.

In the Great Game for control over Southwest and Central Asia in general and Iran in particular, the US and its vassals have now managed to start a civil war in Syria, in which, no doubt, hundreds of thousands will be killed. And all without overtly intervening, while skilfully shifting the blame to Russia and China. Way to go – Mr Obama and company have indeed shown themselves capable of learning from the public-relations errors of Bush/Cheney !…

Maybe Assad should not have made things worse by slaughtering the civilian populace of Syria to get the ball rolling. Assad has to shoulder some blame here.

A diabolically ingenious play on words, that.
