  1. Exactly…sigh…

    1. Indeed. In the event that Mr Trump is suspected of proposing a quid pro quo deal of the type «we’ll reduce/remove the sanctions if you approve our business deals» or, to take another example, «we’ll reduce/cease our military provocations in and over waters close to your shores if Ivanka wins her trademark case», that certainly falls under the purview of Article II, Section 4 («The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.») and warrants an investigation, in striking contrast to the absurd claims that «Russia hacked the US election»….

Of course deals of the type «we’ll repeal the Glass-Steagall legislation if you’ll contribute to our foundation and pay us humongous sums for speeches after we leave office» also comes within the purview of Article II, Section 4, but that’s another matter, and who cares ? – it doesn’t wake all those wonderful McCarthyite instincts that anything that has to do with those dastardly Russians manages to evoke, even in people who should know better….
