No, it is what the American people let happen. Competent leaders were always around. They were just forbidden to enter office.

Yes competent leaders were and are around but they reject the idea of conforming to the entrenched Republican and Democratic Establishments therefore they cannot or will not participate. Until the Knuckle Dragging Mouth Breathers are eliminated there will never be competent politicians. I would love to see the fair-minded Republicans (The Lincoln Project and its ilk are not fair-minded Republicans) who have left the party and the practical minded Democrats and Progressives form a third party. Yes, it will take years, there will be pain, and democracy will suffer but the battle to supplant the “politics for profit and personal gain” will be worth it in the end. I would implore the populace to READ damnit and become informed.

Well Byrdie, that building in the back is where people called politicians used to take large amounts of money from corporations some called donations and others called bribes making laws on behalf of the corporations, until they realized all the politicians were no longer needed and one man could be put in charge to oversee it all for the corporations. You see Byrdie, it saved those corporations even more money not needing to support all those people in what was once called Congress. Well I see you have gone and done it again Mr. Fish.
